Search engine optimization
Basically, your easyweb default instance is configured for indexing by search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.. The automated programs of these companies are called crawlers. They control all links and clickable elements on your website and assign a technical-content relevance rating that affects the sorting order of the hit list.
There are some measures (SEO = Search Engine Optimization) that you can take to better map the structure of your website on search engines. This increases the visibility and retrievability of content by improving the relevance score.
- It makes a lot of sense not to create multiple copies of pages or content elements such as text, but to reference an original source when there are multiple uses. Copy-pasting is also penalized by search engine index crawlers with lower website visibility.
- In terms of content, try to create a balanced mix of text, images, tables and interactive elements on all sub-pages.
- Provide images with captions and descriptive alternative texts (see also Accessibility).
- If you make major changes to the website or are in the process of building it, it is recommended to use the maintenance mode. This prevents the indexing of your content by search engine index crawlers.
Meta tag description
A useful option to increase the findability of your website is also the assignment of meta tag descriptions. These short description texts are processed by search engine services and displayed as an abstract in the hit list. Formulate a naturally speakable summary of the website with 2-3 sentences. Use ideally 150, but not more than 160 characters. Use the most important search terms of your website in the description text as far up front as possible.
The metadata can be edited via the Page Properties function in the Metadata tab.
