Privacy policy background
In the fall of 2023, the revised Basel-City Information and Data Protection Act (IDG) will come into force. The exact date is not yet known, but the University of Basel must be ready for it.
The revision of Swiss data protection laws became necessary in particular to ensure that Switzerland continues to have data protection laws equivalent to the GDPR from the EU's perspective. This ensures that personal data can be transferred back and forth between Switzerland and the EU without complications.
A key point of the revision concerns the increased transparency obligation towards persons from whom data is collected, because only in this way can these persons really exercise their right to informational self-determination.
Anyone who operates a website collects and processes the personal data of website visitors. For this reason, all university websites require a legally compliant, detailed and easily understandable privacy policy that provides information about what personal data is processed, for what purpose, for how long, and by whom. In addition, the privacy policy must also inform website visitors of their rights (e.g. rights of access or revocation of consent).
Creating the privacy policy
On each easyWeb instance, under Pages in the Special folder, under Footer Links, you will find a disabled page titled "Privacy Policy". The page has already been translated to English. This privacy policy serves as a template for you, only the bold highlighted parts need to be adapted to your website. You are required to have a privacy policy on your website. We recommend that you adapt this template as soon as possible and put it up. If you have any legal questions or uncertainties, please contact the team of data protection officers at the University of Basel: datenschutz@clutterunibas.ch.
